Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using Disinflow

General Questions

What is Disinflow?

Disinflow is a free AI-powered fact-checking tool that helps you verify claims, news headlines, and statements by analyzing primary sources and providing evidence-based credibility scores.

Is Disinflow free to use?

Yes! Disinflow is completely free for everyone. We believe access to fact-checking tools should be available to all.

Who created Disinflow?

Disinflow was created and is maintained by Sebastiano Presti Recupero. For questions or feedback, contact: info@disinflow.com

Is there a usage limit?

To prevent abuse and ensure fair access, there is a rate limit of 10 fact-checks per 15 minutes per IP address. This should be more than sufficient for normal use.

How It Works

How does Disinflow verify claims?

Disinflow uses advanced AI to:

  1. Search for relevant information across the internet
  2. Identify and prioritize primary sources (original documents, research, direct interviews)
  3. Evaluate source independence and credibility
  4. Analyze evidence supporting or contradicting the claim
  5. Generate a credibility score (0-100) based on evidence quality
What are "primary sources"?

Primary sources are original, uninterpreted information such as:

  • Legal documents and official transcripts
  • Peer-reviewed research data
  • Direct interviews and first-hand accounts
  • Original recordings and unedited videos
  • Raw data and statistics

We exclude secondary sources like media summaries, press releases, and think tank analyses unless primary sources are unavailable.

What do the credibility scores mean?
  • 80-100 (Likely True): Strong primary evidence supports the claim
  • 60-79 (Mostly True): Good evidence with minor gaps or qualifications
  • 40-59 (Mixed/Unclear): Conflicting or insufficient evidence
  • 20-39 (Mostly False): Evidence contradicts the claim
  • 0-19 (Likely False): Strong evidence against the claim
How long does a fact-check take?

Most fact-checks complete in 10-15 seconds. Complex claims with limited sources may take slightly longer (up to 30 seconds).

Accuracy & Limitations

How accurate is Disinflow?

Disinflow uses state-of-the-art AI, but it's not perfect. Accuracy depends on:

  • Availability of primary sources
  • Complexity and nuance of the claim
  • How clearly the claim is stated
  • Recency of events (very recent claims may lack sources)
⚠️ Important: Always review the cited sources yourself and use critical thinking. Disinflow is a tool to assist your fact-checking, not replace it.
Can the AI make mistakes?

Yes. AI systems can:

  • Misinterpret nuanced or context-dependent claims
  • Struggle with very technical or specialized topics
  • Miss recent developments due to knowledge cutoffs
  • Be influenced by how claims are phrased
  • Occasionally provide incorrect analysis

This is why we always provide source citations so you can verify the analysis yourself.

What if there's no evidence available?

If primary sources are unavailable, Disinflow will:

  • Mark the claim as "UNSUPPORTED" or "INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE"
  • Assign a low credibility score (0-20)
  • Explain why evidence is lacking

Note: Lack of evidence doesn't always mean a claim is false—it may simply be unverifiable with current sources.

Does Disinflow have political bias?

Disinflow is designed to be politically neutral and evidence-based. However:

  • The AI's training data may contain inherent biases
  • Source selection can inadvertently reflect bias
  • We prioritize primary evidence over political alignment

We encourage users to critically evaluate results and cross-reference with other fact-checkers.

Using Disinflow

What types of claims can I check?

You can check:

  • News headlines and articles
  • Social media posts and viral claims
  • Scientific or medical statements
  • Historical facts
  • Political claims
  • Common myths and misconceptions

For best results, state claims clearly and specifically.

How should I phrase my claim?

Good examples:

  • "Vaccines cause autism"
  • "The Earth is flat"
  • "Climate change is causing global temperatures to rise"

Less effective:

  • "Is this true?" (too vague)
  • Very long articles (summarize the main claim)
  • Questions without assertions (rephrase as a statement)
Can I save or share results?

Yes! Click the "Copy to Clipboard" button to copy the full analysis including:

  • The original claim
  • Credibility score
  • Full analysis text
  • Source citations

You can then paste and share this information anywhere.

Why am I seeing a rate limit error?

You've exceeded the limit of 10 fact-checks in 15 minutes. This limit helps:

  • Prevent abuse of the service
  • Ensure fair access for all users
  • Control operational costs

Simply wait 15 minutes and you'll be able to use the service again.
